Rakel Liekki (b.1979) is a visual artist and a journalist. She is a member of Artists' Association MUU and The Union of Journalists in Finland.
At the tender age of four Rakel told her parents she will be a painter. She moved away from home to study arts at fifteen and graduated in 2001 with painting as her major.
Liekki believes that the most important task for an artist is to interact within the society. Her goal is to be a part of making the world a better place. She is not afraid of being political or ashamed of being naive, therefore her work often views the world through either black and white or ridiculously pink glasses.
Being a feminist that sides with the small and silent, Rakel’s mission is to stand up for those who cannot defend themselves. Never inclined to play it safe and neutral and fearlessly standing her ground has earned Rakel both a following of die-hard fans as well as her fair share of death threats.
Rakel often plays with the boundaries of art and popular culture as well as the boundaries between artist and art.
